These Monastrell grapes (also know as Mourvedre) were picked from the 40-year old parcels of the Bodegas Hijos Estate. The soil there is shallow and chalky with tons of limestone and rock. This, combined with an arid climate, produce the low yields required for wine of this complexity. After harvesting, the deep purple grapes are whole-cluster macerated, then pressed and aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. You get a strong, rich, and masculine wine every time with Juan Gil.
